I went to সৈনিক ক্লাব to watch a Bangla cinema today. They were showing Debashish Biswas directed ‘ ভালোবাসা জিন্দাবাদ ’. I expected a typical storyline, Jhakao Makao dancing, Bangla style মাইর - পিট , fun dialogues and some serious over acting. I exactly got that plus some more!   The hero and heroine – Arifeen Shubho & Airin Sultana were fashionably awesome, picturization of songs were top class, humor laid out by the গুন্ডা বাহিনী brought পেট - ফাটানো হাসি and dresses worn by all actor / actresses were   well designed.   What I did not expect is the way Arifeen Shubho acted. He was just too good. To complement that, the director pulled good acting from the heroine Airin Sultana. Together they looked a fine pair. If they lose today, no problemo. If they win, kudos. I remember how painful it was watching our cricketers fail again and again in the 1990s; that too miserably. I remember losing to Canada. I remember losing with 10 wickets & 200 runs margins. The way this team plays, the attitude they show, the class they bring to the game is just unbelievable compared to early years. Winning back to back home series is enough for me as a fan. I support. I respect. I salute.

এ কথা নিঃসন্দেহে বলা যায় যে গে লো অর্ধদশকে বাংলাদেশের স্থলবন্দরগুলো বেশ উন্নতি করেছে । কিন্তু দীর্ঘমেয়াদী পরিকল্পনার অভাবে স্থলবন্দরগুলোর অবকাঠামোগত উন্নয়ন ঠিকমত হচ্ছে না । ফলে এগুলো থেকে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না প্রয়োজনীয় সুযোগ সুবিধাও । দক্ষিণ দিক ছাড়া চারদিক স্থল বেষ্টিত হওয়ায় বাংলাদেশকে তার পার্শ্ববর্তী দেশের উপর বেশি নির্ভর করতে হয় । আঞ্চলিক বাণিজ্যিক দ্রব্যাদিগুলো কম খরচে এবং সহজে স্থল পথ দিয়ে আনা নেয়া করা যায় । আর সেটার জন্য আমাদেরকে পার্শ্ববর্তী দেশ ভারতের উপর নির্ভর করতে হয় । কিছু কিছু স্থল বন্দর আন্তঃআঞ্চলিক বাণিজ্যের উন্নতি এবং সরকারের রাজস্ব আয়ের ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখলেও বন্দরগুলো তাদের যথার্থ গুরুত্ব পাচ্ছে না । এটা   সত্য যে বড় মাত্রায় পণ্য আনা নেয়ার ক্ষেত্রে সবগুলো স্থল বন্দরই উপযুক্ত নয় এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণও নয় । কিন্তু উন্নয়ন কর্মকাণ্ডের মাধ্যমে এগুলোর সুযোগ সুবিধা বৃদ্ধি করা যায় । এমন একটি স্থলবন্দরের নাম বুড়িমারা স্থলবন্দর । উন্নয়ন কর্মকান্ডের মাধ্যমে এটার সুযোগ সুবিধা বৃদ্ধি করার পর গেল সাড়ে তিন বছরে স্থল বন্দরটি সরকারের রাজস্ব খাতে ১৩০ মিলিয়ন টাকা জম...

Independent University, Bangladesh; popularly known as IUB is completing its 20 years. The achievements of the marvelous educational institute are many I am sure. For one, it had me as a student! I was in IUB when private universities meant – classes should be held in flat-বাড়ী, the campus has to be in a residential area, smart girls have to be from English medium schools, all toilets have showers attached, common rooms are garages, canteens are backyards and assistant register has to be a famous BTV news presenter. আনেক গুঞ্জনের পর জানা গেলো সত্যটা! আবারো বিবাহ বন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হলেন ওয়াসিম। এবার আর কোন গুজব নয়। আনন্দের মধ্যদিয়েই নতুন জীবন শুরু করেছেন বলে জানিয়েছেন তিনি। ওয়াসিম বলেন, ‘আবার বিয়ে করব কখনোই এমনটা আমি ভাবিনি। তবে আবারো ভালবাসা খুজে পেয়ে আমি ভাগ্যবান এবং খুশি।’ তিনি আরো বলেন, ‘জীবনে দ্বিতীয়বার সুযোগ আসে আমি কেবল এটাই দেখাতে চেয়েছি।’ পাকিস্তানের কিংবদন্তি বাঁহাতি পেসার ওয়াসিম আকরাম বলেন, “লাহোরে এক অনাড়ম্বর অনুষ্ঠানে আমি শানিয়েরাকে বিয়ে করেছি। আমার, আমার স্ত্রী এবং আমার সন্তানদের নতুন জীবন শুরু হয়েছে।” ২০০৯ সালে ৪৭ বছর বয়সে আকরামের প্রথম স্ত্রী হুমা মারা যান। পাকিস্তানের সাবেক এই অধিনায়কের ১৫ ও ১২ বছর বয়সী দুটি ছেলে আছে। তিনি জানিয়েছেন, “শানিয়েরা ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণ করেছে এবং আমাদের ভাষা (উর্দু) শিখছে। তার সঙ্গে আমার ছেলেদের খুবই আন্তরিক সম্পর্ক।” “আশা করি পাকিস্তানের মানুষ ও আমার বন্ধুরা এবং বিশ্বজুড়ে ছড়িয়ে থাকা আমার ভক্তরা আমাদের আশীর্বাদ ও সমর্থন জানাবে।”

দামি দামি ঘড়ি, জুতো, ঘরময় বিভিন্ন উচ্চমূল্যের সোকেস, উন্নত মানের ফার্নিচার, মার্কেটিং, ফ্যাশনময় পোশাক আর উন্নত রেষ্টুরেন্টের খাবারে ডুবে আছেন আসমা। তার প্রতিদিনের খাবারে ওয়েস্টার্ন খাবার না হলে তো হজমই হয় না। শুধু এক বছরে শরীরের ফিটনেস ও সৌন্দর্য্য ধরে রাখার নানা সরঞ্জাম, কসমেটিকস আর সেইসঙ্গে ঘরের সৌন্দর্য বৃদ্ধির সেন্ডেলিয়ার বাতি কিনতে ৪ লক্ষ ৫০ হাজার ডলার ব্যয় করেছেন আসমা। আসমা ফার্নিচারের অর্ডার দিচ্ছেন, ঘরের সৌন্দের্যের জন্য সিলিং বাতি সেন্ডেলিয়ারের অর্ডার দিচ্ছেন। মাত্র এক সপ্তাহ আগে ফেসবুকের মত সামাজিক যোগাযোগের সাইট Instagram-এ আসমা তার ছবি পোস্ট করেছিলেন। তাতে দেখা যায়, তার ডান হাতের কব্জিতে ৮০ ফাউন্ডের জোবনে ব্র্যান্ডের একটি রিস্টবেন্ড। এটি মূলত একটি বিশেষ ধরনের ডিভাইসড। যেটি শরীরের অপ্রয়োজনীয় ক্যালোরি পুড়িয়ে ফেলতে সাহায্য করে। সিরিয়া যখন চরম রক্তক্ষয়ী গৃহযুদ্ধের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছে, প্রতিদিন যেখানে শতশত মানুষ প্রাণ হারাচ্ছেন, প্রিয় জন্মভূমি ছেড়ে শরণার্থী হতে বাধ্য হন হাজার হাজার মানুষ- সেই দেশের প্রেসিডেন্ট আসাদের স্ত্রী আসমা আল-আসাদ তখন এরকম বিলাসী জীবনে ...
