According to transportation safety boards and air crash investigation teams, airplane accidents occur at a rate of one per 1.2 million flights. It means probability of a regular person facing a crisis on air is very less, almost none in fact . Probability of dying is even slighter; 1 in 11 million. The odds of being in a car accident are around 1 in 12,000 in a developed country and around 1 in 2,000 in a developing country like Bangladesh. So, air traveling in reality is a safe medium. But due to wide media coverage on air crashes, people tend to think otherwise. Then again, most people fear air traveling because a sense of ‘helplessness’ digs in mind of most passengers when things go wrong on board. Airplane crashes attract attention of individuals mostly because these are rare compared to car crashes, train accidents and sinking of vessels. In Bangladesh, the ratio is even lesser. Last time a commercial airplane crashed and lost all passengers in Bangladeshi territory was in 1984. It was a Fokker F-27. Captain Kaniz Fatema Roksana, made two attempts to land the airplane at the Dhaka airport in reduced visibility, due to heavy rain, but could not find the runway. Running low on fuel, on the third attempt, the airline crashed in 500m short of the runway, in a swamp, killing all 49 people on board. Black box becomes the most significant thing as soon as an airline crashes as it captures data of airspeed, altitude, vertical acceleration, fuel flow and cockpit conversations. Ended up creating a visual of the whole thing; based on my imagination that is. I play with video editing tools purely for pleasure. Nochiketa, the famous singer from Kolkata, had an impact on many of us during youth. It was 1993/94; we were growing up with much happenings in socio-political scenario; music of Nochiketa being one of the elements. I went to সৈনিক ক্লাব to watch a Bangla cinema today. They were showing Debashish Biswas directed ‘ ভালোবাসা জিন্দাবাদ ’. I expected a typical storyline, Jhakao Makao dancing, Bangla style মাইর - পিট , fun dialogues and some serious over acting. I exactly got that plus some more!   The hero and heroine – Arifeen Shubho & Airin Sultana were fashionably awesome, picturization of songs were top class, humor laid out by the গুন্ডা বাহিনী brought পেট - ফাটানো হাসি and dresses worn by all actor / actresses were   well designed.   What I did not expect is the way Arifeen Shubho acted. He was just too good. To complement that, the director pulled good acting from the heroine Airin Sultana. Together they looked a fine pair. If they lose today, no problemo. If they win, kudos. I remember how painful it was watching our cricketers fail again and again in the 1990s; that too miserably. I remember losing to Canada. I remember losing with 10 wickets & 200 runs margins. The way this team plays, the attitude they show, the class they bring to the game is just unbelievable compared to early years. Winning back to back home series is enough for me as a fan. I support. I respect. I salute.
